Rising Stars founder and President Paul Savramis, recently announced that Open Season a grassroots program from the Great South Bay area of Long Island will soon become a part of the Rising Stars’ family.
According to Paul Savramis, this is just one of three recent community outreach programs initiated by Rising Stars. The Great South Bay of Long Island has seen an increase in the number of youth searching for basketball program in recent years. Paul Savramis believes a partnership between Open Season and Rising Stars will not only help to fill this need it will also create awareness in providing families from the area additional information of safe and nurturing environments available to them.
Paul Savramis reports that Rising Stars has seen great success from outreach programs over the past 12 months, including sponsorship of the Alzheimer’s Basketball Classic and the Academic+ program at the Great South Bay YMCA.
Open Season’s successful fourth and fifth grade teams will now don Rising Stars jerseys and have access to all the benefits of the Rising Stars academic and basketball programs. Open Season coach Sidney Barrington says that the Open Season parents are excited to have established a relationship with Paul Savramis and Rising Stars. Barrington added that Rising Stars was one of many national basketball programs to approach Open Season on a basketball level but only Savramis and Rising Stars stressed what was important for the group off the court as well as on. Unlike other all basketball programs that stressed winning games the Rising Stars program aligned with the goals and mission of Open Season by emphasizing academics over athletics.
The Open Season organization were already familiar with Paul Savramis and Rising Stars by the testimonials from other families in the area that were thrilled to have their children enrolled in Rising Stars and had watched the program operate successfully through the YMCA.
Paul Savramis looks forward to establishing a Rising Stars presence in the South Shore area where the need for positive youth programs was made clear after the rash of gang related violence and the increase of youth from the area becoming gang members at an early age.
Savramis is committed to growing Rising Stars at the grassroots community level where the program is most needed and looks forward to watching this newly-christened Rising Stars outreach team Play, Learn, and Grow.
